The Annual Congress for Swedish Association for Anesthesia and Intensive Care (Svensk Förening för Anestesi och Intensivvård- SFAI) was held in Helsingborg at the SFAI&AnIVA week 17.-20. of September. Grethe Heitmann, CEO in ExAC was invited to present «External aortic compression in the management of postpartum hemorrhage – a historical review.” The main points was that case reports on the success of external aortic compression started to emerge almost 200 years ago, and eventually found their way to text-books before the practice and knowledge diminished after the mid-20th century.
At the congress, anesthesiologist Ove Karlsson, held workshops about external aortic compression. He used the ExAC Trainer to teach the participants how to achieve bleeding control when treating postpartum haemorrhage. Our hope is that with many more workshops like this, using the ExAC Trainer, the knowledge will increase and ultimately make births safer and less dependent on 21st century cost-driving medicine and blood transfusions.
